Alhagie Sillah heads Gambia Football Federation Normalisation Committee

Hon. Alhagie Sillah has been appointed as head of a five-man Gambia Football Federation Normalisation Committee set up by football governing body, FIFA.

The National Assembly member, who represents the Banjul North constituency in the legislative branch of government, will head the committee appointed by FIFA on 10 July 2014.

World football governing body, FIFA, has appointed a Normalisation Committee to govern the affairs of Gambian football for the next two months.

This development comes after the FIFA Emergency Committee decided today, 10 July 2014, in accordance with article 7 par. 2 of its Statutes to authorize the government to identify five persons to form such committee in order to solve the problems faced by the Gambia Football Federation (GFF).

The Gambia Football Federation has appealed against the country’s two-year ban from international competition by CAF for selecting overage players in an under-20 match and allegedly forging player documents.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) suspended Gambia from all African competitions for fielding five overage players in an under-20 championship qualifier against Liberia last month.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has banned Gambia from all African football competitions for two years for age cheating.

This decision was confirmed by CAF on its official website after Gambia fielded in five overage players in a 2015 African U-20 Championship qualifier against Liberia.

The Gambia has been disqualified from the 2015 African U-20 Championship qualifiers for fielding five overage players.

The Gambia U-20 team were thrown out of the qualifiers to face Ivory Coast in the second round of the preliminaries after a CAF committee ruled a protest case in favor of Liberia.
