Sporting Lisbon sign Seejou King on loan

Portuguese Segunda Liga [second tier] side Sporting Clube de Portugal B [Sporting Lisbon B] have signed Danish-born Gambian defender Seejou ‘Krea’ King, 20, on loan for the rest of the season, this blog can exclusively reveal.

King’s rights are owned by Danish champions FC Nordsjælland but the deal includes an option to sign the Gambian defender to a permanent deal.

It is believed that King will act as a possible long-term replacement for former Liverpool left back Emiliano Insúa, who has left the club to join Spanish La Liga side Atlético Madrid.

King is expected to remain with Sporting B Squad in the Liga de Honra.

“I am very happy to have this opportunity with Sporting, they are one of the big clubs of Europe. I want to help the club win and also show what I could do,” King told this medium.

About Sporting Lisbon B

Sporting Clube de Portugal B is a Portuguese football team based in the country’s capital city of Lisbon. They are the reserve team of Sporting Clube de Portugal, colloquially known as Sporting Lisbon outside of Portugal.

Reserve teams in Portugal play in the same league system as the senior team, rather than in a reserve team league. However, they cannot play in the same division as their senior team, so Sporting B is ineligible for promotion to the Primeira Liga [top tier] and cannot play in the Taça de Portugal [main national football knockout competition] and Taça da Liga [Portuguese League Cup].

Sporting had a B team until 2003/04 season, and refounded it in 2012/13, when a new set of rules regarding B teams was introduced in Portuguese football system. For 2012/13 season, another five B Teams, alongside Sporting B, where refounded and established themselves in Segunda Liga.

The club currently plays at the Complexo Desportivo de Rio Maior which holds a seating capacity of 2000.
