United Soccer Leagues Professional Division club Harrisburg City Islanders have re-signed Gambian striker Sainey Touray ahead of the 2013 USL Pro season.

Sainey Touray returns to the City Islanders after a successful 2012 USL Pro campaign, appearing in 19 games in what was his second season with the Pennsylvania-based club. He registered 2 goals and 4 assists and is looking to continue to be a force in the Islanders’ frontline.

In 2011, his first full season in Harrisburg City Islanders, the 23-year-old finished second on the team with 20 points and third with seven goals, many of which helped him capture people’s attention with his elaborate celebrations.

He finished top on the team with six assists, while logging 1,161 minutes. He also made a brief appearance with the team in 2010 on loan from North American Soccer League [second-tier] club Carolina RailHawks.

“Sainey [Touray] dealt with many injuries last season [2012] and his [goal scoring] numbers went down, but he is healthy again and ready to get back to his 2011 form,” said Harrisburg City Islanders head coach Bill Becher.

“He has looked sharp so far this pre-season and I expect him to score goals for us,” Becher added.

The 6ft 1in striker began his professional career at the age of 13, signing with Tallinding United in the Gambian second division. In 2005 he moved to first division club Wallidan where he became one of the club’s key players, leading the club to the 2008 league title.

He made appearances for both Gambia’s U-17 and U-20 national teams and also gained valuable experience in 2008 during a brief stint with Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls.
