GFF President Mustapha Kebbeh |
After
17 months of a painstaking normalization process, a new President has been elected
to run Gambian football as Mustapha Kebbeh emerged as winner of the Gambia
Football Federation presidential elections.
Development worker Kebbeh, scored a decisive victory over
his sole rival, banker Momodou Musa. Kebbeh polled 30 of the 51 votes. His
election ends a 17 month caretaker period for the seven-member normalization
committee, with whom supporters of the victor have not always been impressed.
Kebbeh will now steer the affairs of Gambian football for
the next four years at least. He took almost 60% of the vote – a clear mandate
by all standards.
Supporters of his rival may be in shock but for Kebbeh,
losing was never an option as he was ever confident of being elected into
office.
Kebbeh will be flanked by Buba ‘Star’ Janneh as his 1st
Vice President, Kebba Touray alias KK as 2nd Vice President and
Basiru Darboe as his 3rd Vice President.
Kebbeh, who is a development specialist, served the Ministry
of Youth and Sports from mid 90s to late 90s including and in addition to a
four year sting as chairman of the National Youth Council. He also volunteered
his services in various sub committees of the Gambia Football Association. He currently
works as national director of Child Fund International, Gambia.
