Gambia appoint U-20 coach

Gambia Under 20 coach Mustapha Manneh
The Gambia Football Federation has appointed Gamtel manager Mustapha Manneh as the new head coach of the Gambia Under 20 team.

The four-time FA Cup winning coach takes over the managerial job left vacant by former coach Lamin Sarr, a member of the current Bakau United technical team.

Tapha will be assisted by Steve Biko gaffer Abdoulie Bojang and Samger’s Jane Joof with Alhagie Marong serving as the goalkeeper trainer.

His task will be to qualify the Gambia to the 2015 Africa Youth Championship to be hosted in Senegal with the country facing the Liberian U-20 team in the first round qualifiers.

The Gambian U-20 team, which is yet to win the U-20 championship, will visit Liberia in the weekend of 4, 5 and 6 April 2014 for the first leg of the qualifiers with the return leg set to be played in Banjul three weeks later, with the winner of the tie playing either Ivory Coast or Guinea Bissau in the second round of the qualifiers.

The African Youth Championship [U-20], which is the main international youth football competition for CAF nations and competed for by Under 20 year olds, is held every two years with the top 4 teams qualifying for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
