Modou Barrow join Swansea City from Östersunds FK |
Premier
League club Swansea City have signed Gambian attacker Modou Secka Barrow on a
three-year contract from Swedish Superettan club Östersunds FK, this blog can exclusively
reveal.
Swansea manager Garry Monk continued his summer spree by
signing the Gambian star from the Swedish second division side.
Monk has already brought in no less than seven new players
to the Liberty Stadium this summer and the Swans certainly look formidable this
season, as evidenced by their fine 2-1 victory over Manchester United during
their opening game.
However, Monk was looking at various areas where he wants to
improve his side and made a swoop for Barrow, who was with the club last week.
Secka Barrow is a promising young forward who has been
making waves in the lower tiers of Swedish football and as a result had
attracted the interest of a host of clubs including Bolton Wanderers, Celtic,
Middlesbrough and Swansea.
The 21-year-old Gambian was close to making a switch to
Bolton recently but Swansea seem to have swooped in at the last minute to
snatch his signature under the noses of the Trotters.
Confirming the agreement for Secka Barrow to move to
Swansea, Östersunds president Daniel Kindberg revealed: “We are especially
excited for the respect shown by Swansea for our club during these intense
negotiations.”
“I have never been through a major deal and I do not know if
I will be involved with something like that again.”
“The club is both glad and proud and wishes Modou all the
best.”
This blog can confirm that Swansea will be paying a fee of around £2
million to land the signature of Secka Barrow and the Gambian forward is
expected to finalize his move to the Liberty Stadium on Thursday, pending a
medical.
He will play his final game for Östersunds on Tuesday when
the club hosts IK Sirius at the Jämtkraft Arena in Week 21 of the Superettan
season.
