Gambia Under 19 |
The Gambia U19 team on Wednesday
afternoon played its second match against Slovenia in
the annual Umbria football tournament currently taking place in Italy.
A total of twenty players and five officials departed Banjul
on 5th May to Italy where they joined counterparts from seven other countries
for the one week regional tournament.
The
team won its first match on Tuesday against San Marino edging the enclaved
microstate country by 2-0 courtesy of Real de Banjul’s Lamin Jallow and Hawks’ Momodou
Badjie.
In
the team’s second Group A match against Slovenia on Wednesday, Momodou Badjie
again netted for the U19 side with Steve Biko’s Ousman Manneh converting a
penalty kick to draw 2-2 with Slovenia.
The
team, which is on 4 points, is set to play its final group match against Umbria
on Thursday.
It would be recalled that The Gambia was invited to the
Umbria tournament in 2012 as part of the technical cooperation between Italy
and the Gambia Football Association through the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
