| Gambia wins Umbria tournament |
The U19 team edged China 1-0 thanks to Hawks’ Momodou Badjie,
who scored his fourth goal in the regional team tournament.
The Gambia overcame Slovenia, San Marino and Umbria in the
group phase before facing off with the hosts Italy at the semi-finals to beat
them 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 scoreline at full time.
The team and delegation are expected to arrive in Banjul on
Tuesday morning via Dakar where they would be met at the Banjul ferry terminal
for welcome ceremonies.
It would be recalled that The Gambia was invited to the
Umbria tournament in 2012 as part of the technical cooperation between Italy
and the Gambia Football Association through the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
