Gambia slips in latest FIFA rankings

Scorpions drop three places in latest ranking
The Gambia has dropped three places in the latest Coca-Cola World Rankings issued by football governing body, FIFA.

The Scorpions are now listed as no 139th among FIFA’s 209 nations. The Gambia also lost ground in the Africa rankings dropping from 39th in September to 40th in the current standings.

The drop can be attributed to the Scorpions’ lack of action since beating Tanzania 2-0 in the previous round of African qualifying for next year’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

African champions Nigeria moved up three places to 33. However, despite the move the Super Eagles are still no 4 in the Africa ranking behind Algeria in 3rd, Ghana in 2nd and Cote d’Ivoire as top dogs.

The Ivorians have also moved up a place in the world rankings to 17th.

In the top ten, only Spain’s position at the summit remains unchanged, while Germany have pushed Argentina out of second place.

New entries into the top ten are Switzerland (7th, up 7) and England (10th, up 7), both thanks to their recent strong performances in the final group games in the World Cup qualifying.

Italy, meanwhile, have paid heavily for their draw against Armenia, dropping four places to eighth.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published after completion of World Cup qualifying on 28 November 2013.
