Gambia's Ebrima Sohna rejoins KuPS
Finnish club Kuopion Palloseura (KuPS) have re-signed Gambia international Ebrima Sohna until the end of the 2014 Veikkausliiga season, this blog can reveal.

The deal for the 25-year-old midfielder, who played for relegated Kazakhstan Premier League side FC Vostok last season, is subject to a medical, Kuopion Palloseura said on their website.

“Gambian midfielder Ebrima Sohna (25) is returning to the ranks of Kuopion Palloseura. Kuopion has made a preliminary agreement with the player, which extends to the league season until the end of 2014. The deal will be complete after the passing of a medical examination,” the club said in a statement.

Sohna, a rangy defensive midfielder who is powerful in the air and has a keen eye for goal, left FC Vostok following a shocking defeat in the relegation play-offs.

Vostok got relegated after they were defeated 1-0 by FC Spartak Semey and it was the third time the ex-Steve Biko and Wallidan ace got relegated to the second tier with his first being in 2008 – just a year after turning professional with Norwegian Adeccoligaen [second tier] side Sandefjord Fotball.

He will give KuPS an extra option in midfield for their 2014 Veikkausliiga campaign which starts in April.

Kuopion Palloseura’s head coach Esa Pekonen told the club’s official website: “Sohna [is the type of] midfield [player we are looking for] in the middle with experience, toughness, leadership, and work ethic being what we are looking for.”

“[He] is an experienced player [who] will also give good support to the younger players,” Pekonen added.

Sohna clocked two thousand one hundred and sixty-two minutes in twenty-five domestic league matches for Vostok last season with a total of one hundred and twenty-nine club career games so far.

He started his professional career with Norwegian club Sandefjord in 2007, spending four seasons with the Vestfold-based outfit.

He later moved to Finland in 2012 to join then Ykkönen [second-tier] side Rovaniemen Palloseura (RoPS) on a short-term contract before settling in at Kuopion Palloseura in the same year, scooping 12 appearances.

Sohna joins compatriot defender Omar Colley, who is on a two-year contract, at the Kuopio-based club.
