Gambian Dawda Bah |
This blog can
reveal that Gambia international midfielder Dawda Bah has made a return to
Finland by joining Veikkausliiga [top-tier] club, Kuopion Palloseura (KuPS) on
a one-year contract.
Dawda Bah was forced to look for a new club after German
Bundesliga side FC Augsburg decided in January to terminate his contract, apparently
for disciplinary reasons.
The decision followed a long injury layoff by the Gambian midfielder
who made only one appearance for Augsburg as a late second half substitute,
after his move there in August 2011 from Finnish Veikkausliiga side HJK
Helsinki.
He was reported to be on trial in Serbia last
month with a top club, FK Vojvodina Novi Sad but nothing solid, came out of it
and it now appears he’ll be keeping busy with KuPS for one year.
KuPS coach Esa Pekonen was pleased with the acquisition of
the 29-year-old saying he brings experience to his team.
“Bah brings to our team experience, skill and game vision. He
is a versatile player who can play different roles on the pitch and I am really
pleased with his arrival,” Pekonen told the club’s official website.
“He was one of the league’s best players before moving to
Germany. At his best, he is capable of turning games around. Primarily, he
foresees the center of midfield, where he can also play as a forward and a
winger. He is a clever guy and brings more power on special occasions,” Pekonen
added.
Bah started his professional career in 2005 with Finnish club
Kokkolan Palloveikot (KPV) and became a key player for the second tier club
where he became the leading goal scorer in the division.
He later drew interest from Veikkausliiga [top tier] clubs,
but decided to stay with KPV for another season. Belarussian club FC MTZ-RIPO
had offered 200.000 Euros for the Gambian, but he turned down a move to the
Belarus club.
He had had trials with Norwegian side Odd Grenland, but did
not get a contract offer. In January 2007, Bah trialled with Algerian club USM
Blida, but the clubs could not agree on the transfer fee.
He started the 2007 season with KPV, but moved to Helsinki
on a loan to Veikkausliiga club HJK. He debuted in a UEFA Cup match against FC
Etzella of Luxembourg and scored a goal.
Later, the capital city club bought him from KPV and offered
him a three-year contract. In 2009, Dave as he is fondly called was one of the
most important features in the Finnish title winning side HJK Helsinki, scoring
eight times and assisting eight times in 25 league games.
He now joins former Real de Banjul defender, Omar Colley at
the Kuopio-based club.
