Ivory Coast play their first competitive match this Saturday
in Abidjan since their Africa Cup quarterfinal exit at the hand of eventual
winners Nigeria last February.
The Elephants host Gambia this Saturday in a Group C
top-versus-bottom affair in Abidjan.
“I feel good, like all my team mates who made the trip to
Abidjan [to face Gambia],” said the 25-year-old Arsenal forward.
“The match against Gambia is important; it is a World Cup
qualifier. It is a game that we intend to negotiate well.”
“The South African failure is part of life. It is important
to forget this painful experience and to focus on the new challenge of the
World Cup qualifiers. Each and every one of us realises we need to move on
because the future is ours.”
“The AFCON failure has been a great disappointment for all
of us. Personally, I struggled to deal with it. Now we start from scratch.
Compare to other nations, we are lucky to have so many good players. We need to
forget the things being said. We must rather focus on our goal to qualify for
the World Cup.”
“We have a good team to achieve this qualification and we
are going to equip ourselves to go all the way. Now, if it does not work and
things turn wrong, we will be disappointed.”
“I do not know the Gambian team, but it is not the most
important. We need to remain focus on our preparation and not worry about the
opponent. We came here to win.”
The Elephants lead Group C on four points from two games
ahead of Saturday’s date at home against bottom placed Gambia who have one
point.
Tanzania are second and a point behind Ivory Coast while
their guests this weekend Morocco are third on two points.
