Zambian referee Janny Sikazwe has been appointed by FIFA to handle Gambia’s 2014 World Cup qualifier against Ivory Coast this weekend.

The Kapiri Mposhi-based secondary school teacher will on June 8 be the centre man in a match involving Gambia’s home fixture against Ivory Coast at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

Sikazwe will be assisted by his compatriots Bruno Tembo as the first assistant referee and Kabwe Chansa being the second assistant referee while Wellington Kaoma, also from Zambia being the fourth official.

Janny Sikazwe, 34, is a football referee from Kapiri Mposhi, Zambia. He has been an international referee since 2001 and was among those that were selected for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations which was co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Ivory Coast lead Group C with seven points, one better than Tanzania, while Morocco are third on two points with The Gambia at the tail of the pool on one point.

Meanwhile, this blog can confirm that Gambian referee Bakary Papa Gassama has been appointed to officiate the 2014 World Cup football qualifier match between Zimbabwe and Egypt in Harare on June 9.

The Gambian official will be assisted by first assistant referee Angersome W Ogbamanam from Eritrea with Felicien Kabanda of Rwanda coming in as a second assistant. Papa’s country mate, Bakary Camara will act as the fourth official, while Neermal Boodhoo of South Africa has been appointed referees assessor.

Zimbabwe no longer have interest in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers after they were handed a 2-1 defeat in the first leg in Alexandria on March 26.

The Warriors are at the bottom of the group with just a single point while Egypt are leading the pack with nine points followed by Guinea on four.
