Sainey Touray nets goal number seven |
Gambian
striker Sainey Touray guided the Harrisburg City Islanders to take sole
position of second place in USL PRO with a 3-1 win over Antigua Barracuda on Sunday.
The Islanders were able to bounce back from a loss last week
to the Colorado Rapids Reserve with a strong showing against the Barracuda with
Sainey Touray netting his seventh goal of the season, which moved him to third
in the league in scoring.
The Islanders got goals from Morgan Langley and Yann Ekra in
the first half. The next goal came off of botched play by the Antigua defense.
The ball was punted high in the air to Touray who then controlled the ball off
of his chest but it fell to the Barracuda’s Mack Karanja.
Karanja tried to control the ball but Touray slipped around
the defence and tapped the ball that dribbled across the line for the third goal
of the game and ultimately the game-winning goal.
The Islanders next home match will be against their major
league affiliate the Philadelphia Union in the annual Battle for the Capital
friendly. The next league game for them will come this Friday, June 21 against
the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in the game that has become affectionately known as
the Pennsylvania Derby.
Elsewhere, Amadou ‘Baresi’ Sanyang saw 63 minutes of play as
his Charleston Battery moved into a tie for third place with a 1-1 draw with
the Rochester Rhinos at Sahlen’s Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Baresi’s Battery will return to Blackbaud Stadium next
Saturday night to take on Karamba Janneh’s VSI Tampa Bay – who lost 2-1 away to
Dayton Dutch Lions at the Miami Valley South Stadium on Monday.
