Gambia’s Division One league to kickoff this weekend

Gambia national league Division One set to kickoff
The Gambia Football Federation has released the fixture list for the 2014 national league Division One.

The champions Steve Biko face a tough start as their season opens with a meeting against serial title favourites Gambia Armed Forces.

The FA Cup holders, Gamtel, will have no easier task, having been paired against former champions, Brikama United while the second division champions, Wallidan, will mark their return to top flight football with a tricky tie against Bakau United, who survived relegation only on goal difference from Seaview.

Banjul United, promoted along with Wallidan, face a baptism of fire against Hawks with the other matches seeing two former champions taking on each other – Real de Banjul, last season’s runners-up, and Gambia Ports Authority – and Samger facing Interior, another team that finished very low last term.

The matches take place this weekend in Banjul, Brikama, Manjai and Serekunda East – the only four venues the Gambia Football Federation intends to use for the first round of the league.
