Gambia and KuPS defender Omar Colley |
Finnish
Veikkausliiga club Kuopion Palloseura have rejected an offer from German 2.
Bundesliga club Arminia Bielefeld for Gambia defender Omar Colley, this blog can reveal.
The Gambia international was trying new
pastures after a one-year spell in Finland with Kuopion Palloseura as he
underwent a two-week trial in Germany last November.
But any hope of a move away from
Finland seems to have died down as the Veikkausliiga club have rejected Arminia
Bielefeld’s offer for the defender.
Talks between the two clubs have been
ongoing for two months after Colley passed his trial with the 2. Bundesliga
club, but a substantial offer is yet to be accepted by the Finnish club.
Kuopion Palloseura are demanding a sum
of €300,000 to be paid as transfer fee, an amount the German outfit described as ‘unrealistic’ considering
the price they got him for from local
club Real de Banjul.
Arminia Bielefeld’s head coach Stefan
Krämer said: “The [transfer] release [fee] is in excess [and] we cannot pay. Such
an amount was not what was agreed upon [and] it is unrealistic.”
“Defender Omar Colley, I have ticked
off [my transfer target list] because his club is on a high transfer fee,” Krämer
added.
DSC Arminia Bielefeld are sweating over
an inconsistent defence ravaged by injuries with a number of its defenders
receiving treatment with coach Stefan Krämer convinced that the Gambia
international could provide cover and help in the club’s ambition to stay up.
The 21-year-old defender is currently
on a two-year contract with the Kuopio-based club.
