Seedy Njie joins Histon FC on loan

Gambian striker Seedy Ishmail Njie
Gambian striker Seedy Njie has joined Histon FC on a month-long loan deal from Southend United, this blog can reveal.

The 19-year-old, who joined the English Conference North [sixth-tier] side on an initial month’s loan, went straight into coach Brian Page’s squad for Saturday’s 4-4 draw away to leaders North Ferriby United.

Page was pleased to complete the deal, saying: “Seedy [Njie] is a powerful and intelligent striker and I’ve been monitoring him for a while. He comes highly recommended and I look forward to him helping the squad continue to progress.”

“He had a magnificent game,” the Histon boss said of Njie’s performance after his side’s 4-4 draw with North Ferriby United.

“I’ve known about him for a while. Like our other loanees, I think we can really help him develop and improve his game,” Page added.

Njie, born in Catford, Lewisham, to Gambian parents, signed a pro deal with League Two side Southend last summer following the completion of his two-year scholarship with the Shrimpers.

He has some previous experience in the Conference North from a loan spell with Bishop’s Stortford last season where he started twice and made four further appearances from the bench, scoring twice.
