Daddy Gai |
The former Montreal Impact, ASC HLM and Bakau United goal
poacher signed a permanent deal with the Division One leaders.
According to Namory Trawally, Sports View Newspaper editor,
the 28-year-old’s move to the Al Farwaniya-based side was on the player’s personal
request to Bakau United which lead to an international transfer certificate
been issued to him.
The paper then added that Gai’s move to the Kuwaiti club was
on a free transfer as his local club claim they haven’t gained anything out of
the transfer.
“We let him [Pa Amadou Gai] go because it is important for
the player as it is paramount sometimes for clubs to look at the interest of
the player,” Sports View quoted a club official as saying.
Gai, whose popular nickname is “Daddy”, began his career in
1997 in the youth setup of his hometown team, Bakau United. He made his debut
for the first team in 2005, and played in the Gambian First Division for four
seasons.
He finished the 2007/2008 season as Bakau United’s top scorer
and in 11 games in the 2008/2009, scored nine goals. He left Gambia on April
15, 2009, for a trial in Canada. He signed a two-year with Montreal Impact in
April 2009 and made his debut for the team on May 2, 2009, in a game against
the Puerto Rico Islanders.
He was released by the club on July 17, 2009 and later on
went to join Senegalese Premier League side Association Sportive et Culturelle
HLM [ASC HLM].
